Craftsman House Plans

Craftsman style homes consist of a variety of aesthetic features such as exposed rafter and beam ends, corbels in the gables, over hanging eaves, and shed dormers. These types of homes were created during the early 20th century during the arts and crafts movement. The exterior of these styles of homes are usually made of stone or wood siding. There is usually some masonry work done on the chimneys. And you will find that the foundation will usually consist of rock and have a slope that grows outward as it approaches the ground. You will also see extensive use of decorative features primarily featuring wood elements.

Historically speaking, Craftsman style homes were originally created due to the work of a pair of arhcitect siblings named Henry Mather Greene and Charles Sumner Greene. Their main inspiration to do this was based in the English Arts and Crafts movement as well as incorporating some concepts form wood Oriental architecture. Although some sources indicate the publication called The Craftsman , by Gustav Stickley, as being one of the first truest origins of Craftsman style designs.
